Earlier, cooking was a form of an art, now it is more of science. If you are a foodie, then land up in Goa. The food over here will definitely get your tummy churning and mouth watering.
Goan cuisine is undoubtedly an assortment of number of lip smacking recipes that will surely incite the taste buds of an epicurean. It carries an intoxicating aroma of Portugal with a hint of exotic and scrumptious Indian spices; and to add another stone to the crowning jewel- inexorable flavor of the Goan drink-‘feni’. The two major communities-Hindus and Christians come together to fabricate culinary wonders. Besotted with rice, coconut and fish, they form the major chunk of Goan food salver. The sea food delicacies form the main delight of Goan food. One can treat themselves over variety of sea food, beverages, bakery items and plethora of other preparations.
The ‘carte du jour’ offers you dishes like ‘vindalho’, ‘chicken cafreal’, ‘fish curry rice’ and many others.

SPECIALITIES:

• Fish curry and rice:
Hot, spicy and tangy fish curry, served with steam rice is the staple food of Goa. Known as ‘Xitt codi’ in Konkani is the diet of people of Goa. Lightly grilled fish (mostly mackerel, you can opt other fish), seethed in spicy curry with plain boiled rice is my all time favorite. Flavor of freshly ground Indian spices can wallop your senses.
It involves a Herculean task of hand grinding the spices, but a little effort pays off really well…. A perfect home food, rich in flavor and taste…..

• Chicken Cafreal:
Portuguese-style grilled chicken, marinated in sauce made of garlic, ginger, chilly, cumin, cinnamon; cloves can be another bewildering culinary experience. It tastes at its bet along with local bread and green salad
Florentine's at Saligao is perhaps the best known restaurant for chicken
cafreal.

• Fenny- a potent countryside beverage………….
White vine, port vine, brandy, scotch, rum, vodka… But nothing can beat the local drink of Goa-‘fenny’. Nothing can electrify your taste buds as much as this drink can.
The swaying coconut palms and the bight red cashew apples cover most of the land in Goa. Their juice and sap are fermented to yield this traditional drink. It has a very peculiar smell that can be recognizes from a distance. The quality of the drink is generally judged by its aroma.
Toddy ferments to about 4% of alcohol, but when distilled, it produces ‘urrack’, favorite drink sold in the local bars. 'Caju' Feni derived from the cashew apple. Cashew was first cultivated and introduced in Goa by the Portuguese.
Though one can have it neat; it always advisable to mix it with soda. It can make you feel heady and you might need a strong coffee the next day, to cope up the hangover.
Fenny is a strong, potent and highly intoxicating drink. Yet, it carries the whole essence of countryside. Drink wisely, I am sure you will enjoy it more than a British Scotch!!!!!

• Bebinca:

Next time when you are in Goa, do not fail to check out this traditional Goan pudding made out of plain flour, ghee, sugar and coconut milk. It’s also called as ‘bibik’, baked in several layers. A slight touch of grated coconut on top is sure to enhance its taste. When served with vanilla ice cream, it poses a deadly combination!!!!!!!!!!!!!

• Dodol:

Made of coconut milk, jaggery and rice flour is another very popular dessert of ‘land of sand & sea.’ Though its preparation involves a cumbersome task of constant stirring, nothing can beat this toffee-like delicacy. Top it with grated dry fruits, the HCl graph of your tummy is sure go up!!!!
