Underprivileged kids from St. Inez get a glimpse of Spain’s culture…

A music workshop for underprivileged children was conducted Saturday by the Spanish Jazz band, Jaume Vilaseca and Trio, at the St. Inez slum area in Panjim. The event was organized by Goa ForGiving, the charity wing of Trancemedia which owns two popular music foundations, Konkani Rocks and Heritage Jazz.

About 50 kids belonging to the economically weaker segment of the society attended the event. Jaume Vilaseca and trio introduced Jazz form of music to these children and showed them how various musical instruments are played. They were also given an opportunity to create their own tunes using professional musical instruments carried by the trio.

“We at Goa ForGiving conduct such workshops regularly at various venues including schools for kids with special needs, autism and other learning difficulties. We believe that music can play a vital role in future development of these children since most of them have special abilities. This time, we chose the St. Inez slums because such kids could easily take up music as their profession while preserving Goa’s rich musical heritage and culture,” said Edson Martins, Director- Operations at Trancemedia.

“Children, as they say, are future citizens of our country and we have an tremendous responsibility to ensure they can choose a proper profession rather than falling prey at the hands of anti-social elements. Through music, we reach out to these kids and show them that the world cares,” added Armando Gonsalves, Founder and CEO, Trancemedia.

Meanwhile, nearly 100 guests attended the Courtyard Jazz, a unique concept created by Heritage Jazz. The event was held Friday evening at the Home of Jazz in Goa, the Gonsalves Mansion in Campal- also a heritage zone. The Jaume Vilaseca trio enthralled audiences with their evergreen numbers as well as newer tunes, including a fusion of Spanish and Goan music.
