A ‘Jazzy’ heart of love for the Tsunami victims
The Heritage Jazz Yatra at Gonsalves Mansion was wonderful in so many ways. It is obvious that it was exhilarating in musical terms what with George Brooks, Leni Stern, Sunny Jain, Steve Welsh and Gary Wong dishing out top quality jazz that everyone enjoyed so much.
However, what touched everyone was the way the jazz fraternity got together and raised funds for tsunami victims. When the idea of raising funds was first put forward by Bossuet Coutinho of Confidant, the organisers were a little unsure whether it would have worked. However, as the day progressed, they were pleasantly surprised at the way people reacted and donated generously. People who worked behind the scenes gave their earnings at the show to the tsunami fund, and the very mood at the show prompted people like Mr. Abdullah of Pegasus Tours to donate generously. Joe Mathias, Gerson Rebelo, Valerio Sequeira, FrazerPires, Glen Rebelo and many others dipped into their reserves and made it an evening of great joy for the jazz fraternity.
And the support of Colin Curry who worked so silently and efficiently was something that gladdened the hearts of everyone concerned. More than anything else, it showed in clear terms that the jazz fraternity of Goa is united in what it does and signifies a paradigm shift in what we can do together.
Besides our wonderful American friends who enthralled each and everyone of the approximately 400 strong crowd. S Harikumar, the highly gifted and loved violinist from Kerala traveled 800 kilometres just to be part of the charitable action. And this is where the heartbeat is. In the love and affection of all concerned. Because, only love and God's grace can take the good things in life forward. Cheers to the music loving people of Goa.
