The Jazz movement is on a roll

I never really imagined that there would have been so much of jazz action right in the beginning ofthe year and here we are with more than a fair share of good luck. With Dennis Rollins having created a stir at the La Marvel Colony on Saturday, we were delighted that we could have taken the live jazz scene that much further with Caetano Filipe Colaco, his family and so many of the distinguished families in the premier colony situated in Paula, being hosts.

The whole idea of the Heritage Jazz Yatra is to merge two vital elements of Goan life that is music and the home. And I must say that we have succeeded to some extent simply because of the extensive love and affection that we have got from the musicians, whether they are from abroad or from any part of our lovely country including our very own Goa. Dennis accentuated it with precision by involving the discerning weekend gathering, in a "conversation" that had all of us in a tizzy.

His delightful rendition of the cartoon song 'The Flintstones' was the highlight of the evening and he demonstrated that music has to be simple and cool and has to reach out to the people rather than being something complex that is not understood at all. His delectable playing and gentle spirit held sway under the star-lit night and we were humbled by the fact' that all he could say was that the evening was 'simply magical'.

Coming from a man who has played to packed audiences all over the world including jazz festivals just everywhere, it is something that gladdened our hearts.

I would have loved to take a few more lines on this silent movement that is taking place but limited space makes me speed up to the next Chapter in this wonderful heritage journey. In the thick of the show of last weekend, I was surprised by a call from another world class saxophonist and pianist from New York, George Brooks who happens to be in Mumbai.

With Leni Stern, a jazz singer of repute in New York he will be here to enthrall music lovers in Goa this Sunday in the company of another stunning group from New York which comprises Sunny Jain, Steve Welsh and Gary Wang.

The Heritage Jazz Yatra is something that we are committed to simply because of the most wonderful experience we all go through. I take this opportunity of calling in fashion designers, painters and other people from the arts to join forces with us so that we can showcase another aspect of the stunning ability that we Goans possess. I also call upon corporate as well as individuals to come forward to support this movement in any which way it is possible. And as always, your suggestions are welcome since, we believe, this whole movement has happened because of you and it is that 'you' that has to be wholeheartedly involved in this wonderful process.

So, get along and just do not miss the jazz date this Sunday. We have been just simply lucky to be in a position to get five New Yorkers to enthrall us all. So, get along, keep everything aside, and be there for the grandest show till date that is being organized in the Heritage series.
