Two dedicated lovers of jazz and heritage houses have decided to give life to an exciting project. The idea was to get some big names, really stellar performers, to launch a new concept in music entertainment – Jazz under the stars in a heritage house down south, a house that has its roots stretching deep into local history, with ample grounds, lush gardens and ample seating. Trancemedia following their success with “Panjim Ablaze” will transform the beautiful venue into a fairyland. Delicious food, drinks and the brotherhood of music will complete the magic.
The Rebello Mansion with the well-worn traditional title “Odlo Batcar”, Betalbati will witness a Goa first on Saturday 9 September commencing at 7:00 pm when great artists will come together from varying musical and geographical backgrounds to create a fusion of east and west, Christian and Hindu, traditional and modern, transcending boundaries in an exciting fusion of music.
The featured artist is Kadri Gopalnath whose mastery of the saxophone is phenomenal. He has toured abroad extensively, cut many LPs and CDs and has won awards too numerous to list. He is the only saxophone player to be ranked in the “A” category by All India Radio. The Illustrated Weekly of India said “he can do anything with the saxophone except eat it”. S. Harikumar, the pupil of the legendary Dr. L. Subramanian, who recently enthralled us with his violin wizardry, will once again weave enchanting melodies with his magic bow.
And the list of greats continues
The house has character. It’s down-to earth. Anyone can enter. You open the gate and you’re there – in a different world. It is set in spacious grounds with a garden in front and sides. You can see it in one frame and not have to zoom to catch the entirety of its effect. Moreover, it’s set on a plinth that raises it off the ground, the distinctive blue woodwork separating from the ground it so proudly sits on.
This is a concert for people who love jazz and would like to be a part of exciting live music making. The concert is free. It’s an occasion for networking, for meeting people with like interests. An opportunity for people to find alternative entertainment to the wild, loud disco scene.
Attendance is by invitation only but the invitations are available to anyone who is genuinely interested. The concert is not for the rich and famous but for anyone who wishes to be enriched by a special musical event. It is not a socialite event, rather a socialising occasion. It’s a special jazz lovers’ club that is being formed where people with a shared love will come together to enjoy outstanding live music making.
All you have to do is to phone up the numbers that will be advertised for an open-door invitation for you and your friends. The event is a proof of concept, an exploration that such a happening is viable.
